Maximum Score
Also called Max score
Stroke play without the blow-up hole. The committee sets a most-you-can-take on each hole, and once you reach it you pick up.

How it works
- 1Before the round the committee sets the cap — net double bogey, twice par, or a fixed number.
- 2Play each hole as stroke play.
- 3Reach the cap and pick up: you score the cap for that hole.
- 4Add up and take off your handicap. Lowest net wins.
Ties
Level at the top? Compare the back nine, then the last six, then the last three, then the 18th. In stroke play, half, a third, a sixth and an eighteenth of the handicap come off each in turn.
Good to know
It counts for handicap, like a medal, and it's a lot quicker on a busy day.

Allowances follow the World Handicap System recommendations used by Golf Ireland. Your club or society may set its own — the entry sheet wins.
