How it works
- 1Take your handicap shots on the holes they fall on.
- 2Net birdie or better wins the hole (+). Net par halves it (0). Anything worse loses it (−).
- 3Once you've lost a hole, pick up.
- 4Add the pluses and minuses. "2 up" beats "all square", which beats "1 down".
Ties
Level at the top? Compare the back nine, then the last six, then the last three, then the 18th. In stroke play, half, a third, a sixth and an eighteenth of the handicap come off each in turn.
Good to know
A Stableford card converts easily: 3+ points is a win, 2 a halve, 0–1 a loss.
